We designed this bracket so you do not have to disassemble your original column, or cut your bracket in half, to get the boot retaining ring off to use it on your new column. This bracket is similar to a hand cuff, in that it opens up to go around your column – then you can bolt it to the firewall, making a good seal between the boot and firewall. The bracket also has a welded on lower tab that pushes into the lower column support bracket to seal the small indention below the column, just like the original ring.
