This is a true transmission filter kit. The stock filter is really only a strainer that keeps large chunks from getting into the valve body. This kit will actually remove dirt and small particles floating in the fluid. this spin on external replacement filter just goes between the cooler and transmission. This kit has the added option of a magnet that pulls any metallic particles out of the fluid allowing you to keep tabs on your transmission without having to remove the pan.
