RACE PARTS FOR BRONCOS

WHEN YOU SEE THIS SYMBOL

Every part on our web site or in our catalog that has this symbol, are off the shelf parts we use on our race Bronco. This means these are not extra fancy or supper expensive racing parts they are just our standard high quality off the shelf parts we sell every day but have been tested and proven to hold up in one of the most famous and roughest races in the world.

If you don't see the Baja proven symbol it doesn't mean the part wasn't good enough for testing in the Baja but because the class 3 rules require a specific part or design to pass the TECH inspection.

OUR FIRST YEAR RACING THE 2003 BAJA

A FEW QUESTIONS

Q Why does BC Broncos race?

A Three reasons, The main reason: to test parts we design and sell. What better way to test out our parts than to abuse them in the most extreme environment, 1000 miles of Hell.  I have heard that 1000 miles in Baja is like 50,000 miles of normal day-to-day driving. If that is true, the Bronco has done very well. The second reason: to get more people excited about Broncos and to continue the legend of the Bronco. The third reason: off-road racing kicks ass. Once we did it we had to do it again. Anyone can join the team, and if you do, you will never forget your experience and will want to do it again.

Q Why did you paint your Race Bronco like the American flag?  Who suggested it?

A Jason suggested it because we are patriotic and love America. He got out of the Army after 4 years of service 4 days before 9/11, and we wanted to show our pride in America and our Bronco.

AT THE STARTING LINE

READY FOR PAINT

The flag on our Bronco is not a sticker, It is taped off, painted, air brushed and shadowed to give it the  wave affect.

DOING SOME TESTING

  LOTS OF TESTING

THE DRIVERS ARE THE HARDEST WORKING

Hey, you are supposed to be racing not sleeping! Only 30 miles in we heard over the radio "the truck doesn't turn left". We told them we would meet them at the first road crossing and try to fix the steering. It was a good thing we had them stop. The reason the Bronco would not turn left was, we were trying a new lower track bar mount design. The way it was mounted it was actually pushing the right radius arm off the front-end, shifting the front-end to the right and not letting the driver turn left. This caused a major problem. The center section of the front-end housing smashed into the oil pan leaving a large hole. Jason yells, "kill the engine we are leaking oil".

THE PIT CREW DOING A GREAT JOB

The first thing we needed to do was to stop the oil leak. We drained the oil and welded up the holes in the pan. We then moved on to the original steering problem. We had only two options; call the race because it was too dangerous or to move the track bar mount to a semi-stock location and shorten the track bar. We had some steel so we decided to go that route. Jack welded up a track bar mount with the steel we had and got us out of the pit stop in under 2 hrs.

AIR CONDITIONING

Yes, thanks to Vintage Air, the BC race Bronco has AIR CONDITIONING. Why would you put A/C in a race Bronco that doesn't even have a windshield? This filtered A/C is designed to go directly into the driver and co-drivers helmet, cooling the head and keeping a positive pressure in the helmet  to keep from breathing dirt. When it gets cool at night we can shut off the A/C and just have fresh air blowing in the helmet.

REAR SUSPENSION

The rear suspension has been stretched 10" and the shackles are longer for more flex. We are using Deaver springs.

OLD HORSE RACING

This is the place to go for info about racing early Broncos, if you want to race your early Bronco or want to be part of the pit crew. here is the forum link. http://www.oldhorseracing.org/BRF/ .Started by Chuck and Dan to help promote and support the Broncos legacy in racing and to continue that tradition.

THE 2005 CREW

2004 3rd PLACE FINISH

After 1017 miles, one broken cross-member, a few flat tires, lots of cactus smashing           and a rollover, we took third place.

BAJA IS HARD ON EQUIPMENT

NEW PARTS

DESIGNED AS A DIRECT RESULT OF OUR RACING IN BAJA

ADJUSTABLE TRACK BAR

Our Adjustable Track bar is the first part we designed as a direct result of Racing Baja. We found in testing that the standard adjustable track bar would break at were the upper end threaded into the main part of the bar track bar and that the upper bushing would go bad, making the Bronco harder to handle at high speed. Here is the link to check it out. http://bcbroncos.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=327

RADIUS ARMS

Two days before we left for Baja, Jason and Wes took the racer out for a quick test run just up the driveway (1/4 mile long).  They got out of the wash, the truck got a little squirrelly and they just hit the edge of a cement pylon about 5' long and 18" in diameter at about 50 mph with the front tire. They were wearing their helmets and 5 point seatbelts so they were not hurt. They said they didn't think they hit it that hard. When they got back to the shop, they said the Bronco was a little hard to turn. We got it in the shop and put it on the lift and found a few things wrong. The radius arm was trashed, the new 4x4x2 power steering box sector shaft was twisted and cracked, and on the new F150 left side tie rod, the tapered shaft was actually bent into a slight "S" shape. We now have the steering sector shaft, steering knuckles and spindles cryo-treated. This is also the reason we decided to build our new radius arms. This is WHY we race, to see what breaks and how to make it better. Click the picture for more info.

This was the third product we built because of racing the Baja 1000. We ran our cut down Heavy Duty F-150 tie-rods until the 2004 race during the race at  round mile marker 900 Chuck and Wes rolled the racer, when they got it to the pit stop we saw that the tie-rods were really sloppy and we had to take some extra time to change them out .We don't know if it was because of the tie-rods being sloppy that caused them to roll over or the roll over damaged the tie-rods but we know with the new heim steering set up it won't be a problem in future races. Click the picture for more steering parts.

Here are some parts that we have been working on and have been testing in Baja but have not worked out yet. We are sure this section will grow as we try new things.

In 2005 One proto-type that didn't work out too well. The track bar was actually pulling the radius arm off the axle wedges, moving the axle to the passenger side, keeping the Bronco from turning to the left.
